An easy way to skim a little more money off the top (and to accomodate the
stragglers that show up too late to get in on the tournament) is to host
side games.
As extra people show up, or as people lose out of the tournament, create
new tables of 10 players at $10 a pop; implement an aggressive blind
schedule for a fast game, and pay $50 to the winner. At the last poker
night I was at, these side games raised an extra $200 for the team. Its
also a lot easier to convince a non-card player to part with $10 than $40,
so they were able to entice folks who showed up but hadn't intended on
playing into 'donating' for the cause.
Incidently ... does anyone know what the actual law is with regards to
hosting Poker games? (home games, fundraisers, or otherwise)
