Ok, I forwarded the list a few emails but since I didn't get them back, I'll assume you didn't get them either. A few housekeeping things:
There is a new website set up for the Winter League, including a schedule of the next few weeks, at http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?cmenuid=1&url=fat_shadows&sid=1674501
We play on:
Oct 26 (Wed) - 11:00 p.m., East field. We need a volunteer to ref a game at 10 p.m. I will volunteer several times later in the season, but not this week.
Nov 2 (Wed) - 10:00 p.m., East field. We will need someone to stick around to ref the game after.
Also, league fees have been finalized. The options are $1200 up front, or three payments of $450. We are going with the three payments option, which means that we need $450 by the Nov 2nd game. Forgive me as my mind is elsewhere, but I think this is the roster:
Brian Schmuland
Bryan Torson
Charles "Jake" Jacoway
Corey Schaffer
Dan Thorson
Farrell Baird
Jared Weinbender
Jeff Gross
Jeremy Thorson
Kei Wan
Matt Pinch
Matt Vaughn
Paul Seamen
Stuart Trombley
Terrance Ma
Which adds up to 15 players, so league fees due immediately will be $450 / 15 = $30 each. If I've miscounted or missed anyone, here's some other math for you guys.
16 players = $28
17 players = $26
18 players = $25
Either myself or Farrell will be collecting the money (sorry Farrell!) and we will not be spotting anyone any cash. Bring your money to the game on the 26th. Anyone who had not paid up by the 29th will be removed from the roster - if you are still not sure about playing and don't want to pony up, please let me know immediately (dan at liveglobalbid.com) as there are several people who have requested to play and are eager to take a place on the roster. For playoffs, we need a fixed roster of no more than 15 players so I would like to keep the season roster very near that number to avoid the potential of hurting anyones feelings later on.
Also, please remember if you haven't already payed Farrell for your shirt, please make arrangements to do so immediately.
I don't know if anyone made it to practice today, if you did, good for you (seriously.) Next week we should have good weather, so we could have a few after work practices if people are so inclined. One thing I haven't told you yet, is that there are dressing rooms available for us at the facility, so if we can't practice on a field, we could get to the games early and practice in theory in our dressing room - at least it would help us get familiar with the plays we have. I think everyone should print them off and spend a few minutes on them before the next game anyway. To get a dressing room, the first person from the team to arrive trades in their car keys for a dressing room key. We don't get the car key back until after an inspection that everything is clean/not broken/etc. There is no alcohol allowed in the dressing rooms - that's what the bar is there for. We could alse meet early at the bar and go over plays as well, might be more fun. (maybe less productive, ut by the sounds of our last game, that's unlikely.)
I am still entertaining the idea of a formal poker night. If anyone has any contacts at suitable venues (pubs, bars, etc) we can see if we can arrange something in exchange for bringing people in, otherwise we can rent a place like the Exchange, Austrian/German/Klingon club, etc. I think the rental fee would be around $300 for the evening, but that's just a guess. Food for thought - we could potentially make enough to buy a good football or two, and knock off a payment or even both (the next payments will be due in Dec and Jan.)
Here's a summary of the 3rd down rules, from the league coordinator. These are probably on the website linked above - I haven't checked.
There are 2 "Turnover" lines on each side of centre - the first is at approx 25 yds and the second is at approx. 45 yds (numbers are for reference only). If a team advances the ball past their own 25 but not their own 45 and loses the ball on third down, the opposition takes the ball on their own side of centre on the second "Turnover" line (45). If the team advances past their second "Turnover" line (45) and loses the ball on third down the opposition takes possession on their own first "Turnover" line (25).
After a TD or at the start of the game, a team will kickoff from a point 6 yds back of the second turnover line. Hope that makes sense - there will be a learning curve for sure, but let's try to help each other out or look for one of the exec on the field to give you a hand!
< There is a diagram on the website - click on "Turnover Lines" on the home page (top right) >
I am sorry for missing the last game and ignoring the email list and team, but I had a good excuse. On Tuesday morning, my wife gave birth to our first child, Eliza. I haven't been able to put her down long enough to check my email.
On 3. Ready, Break!
Dan
